The last leg of our Scandinavian vacation originally was just a layover in Reykjavik on our way home, but we are so glad that we extended it by a few more days. Iceland was definitely the highlight of our trip!

We rented a car (a must for exploring Iceland) and headed out to the southern part of the island. On our two-day road trip, we drove through the expansive countryside dotted with Icelandic horses and sheep. We stopped at a bird sanctuary where we caught the last of the puffins nesting onshore (they nest on land and spend the winter at sea). Our final stop – and most impressive – was to Jokulsarlon and seeing the immense 1000-year old glacier, iceberg filled lagoons and black sand beaches. It was like nothing else I have ever seen, probably because it doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world. It was easily the best road trip of our lives!

Here are some of my favorite photos of Iceland. You can see more of my photos on Instagram (@percolatingdesign).
